The X-Men franchise is in a sorry state after Apocalypse performed disappointingly at the US box office this year, and to make matter worse, Jennifer Lawrence’s three-movie deal has now expired.
Director Bryan Singer has left the series too, and Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy have also seen out their contracts. It’s not looking good, but there could still hope for fans of the series.
As The Hollywood Reporter reveals, producer Simon Kinberg is working on a new sequel which could restore the saga to former glories.
J-Law, Fassbender and McAvoy’s characters Professor X, Magneto and Mystique are all reportedly featured heavily in Kinberg’s new script – could we see them back again?
Jennifer Lawrence has previously hinted that she’d like to return to the series. She once joked that the trio of actors would hold out for a ‘massive pay rise’ to come back – time to get the chequebook out Marvel.
Lawrence has appeared as Mystique in three X-Men films after making her debut in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.
