Everyone knows Jeff Bridges as the Oscar-winning star of Crazy Heart, True Grit and The Big Lebowski – but not many are aware of his hidden talent for photography.
For the past 30 years Bridges has been taking stunning black-and-white panoramic shots from the sets of his films. Familiar faces from Matt Damon to Ryan Reynolds pop up, along with Bridges himself and instantly recognisable surroundings from some of the actor’s classic movies.
After nabbing an Academy Award for Crazy Heart in 2010, Bridges has settled nicely into an elder statesman role – in fact he might just be Hollywood’s last cowboy standing thanks to roles in True Grit and new film Hell or High Water.
In the latter, opening in cinemas on September 9, Bridges plays a lawman on the verge of retirement who’s hunting down bank robbing brothers played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster.
With Bridges back on the big screen soon, now’s as good a time as any to take a look at his incredible photography via his Instagram page.
Fearless stuntman Gil Combs
Taking pictures on movie sets exposes a bit of the magic; it unmasks things that were never meant to be seen. (Like this picture of stuntman Gil Combs on the set of #Fearless, standing on the ledge of a building with his feet being held in case he loses his balance…ha!) Peeking behind the curtain is fascinating, but I am also ambivalent about revealing too much – showing how the “rabbit is pulled out of the hat.” I do know that it’s impossible to expose the REAL magic. The real magic is too deep, and the deeper you dig, the deeper it goes. #TBT

Behind the scenes on Iron Man
#IronMan was lucky to have @jonfavreau at the helm and @robertdowneyjr playing the main guy. They were the reason I wanted to do this movie. When it was all said and done, I think we came up with some good stuff. It's incredible what the #MarvelUniverse has turned into. White Squall’s epic water tank
We shot parts of #WhiteSquall on the island of #Malta. There was a huge tank there. You could create the illusion of being at sea by lining up the edge of the tank with the horizon of the real ocean. They used jet engines and giant fans to make hurricane force winds and dumped massive amounts of ocean water down these slides on top of us. It was amazing. I almost drowned out there. It wasn't so much the water, as inhaling all that damn jet fuel. #TBT #BTS #movie
The Mirror Has Two Faces star Lauren Bacall
#LaurenBacall is getting some direction from our director @BarbraStreisand in #TheMirrorHasTwoFaces. Barbra wanted a certain inflection on a line. Lauren said the line maybe a hundred times. Once Barbra got what she was looking for, we moved on. Nobody said it would be easy. The net result? Under Barbra's direction, Lauren was nominated for an #AcademyAward. #TBT #movies #makingof #bts
