Jeff Bridges could be in line to play arguably the most iconic villain in the Superman – and perhaps even the entire DC Comics – universe: Darkseid.
According to a report from Screen Geek, the 67-year-old actor is the front runner to play the role of the infamous supervillain in a follow-up to the upcoming Justice League movie, which is apparently already being planned.
The appearance of Darkseid in a second Justice League movie would certainly fit with some of the reports on the grapevine.
A few months back New Trailer Buzz reported that Darkseid would appear ‘further down the road’ in the clearest indication that the character would feature in a JLA follow-up, rather than first movie.
There is also the fact the character is connected to Steppenwolf, who has already been unveiled as the main villain for the first movie in the Justice League series.
Due to be played by Ciaran Hinds, an actor familiar to Game of Thrones fans, as any DC Comics fan worth their salt will know, Steppenwolf and Darkseid both come from the planet Apokolips and in one issue joined forces to attack Earth.
That link could make the introduction of Darkseid a logical step for the follow-up though the casting of Bridges would be a major step up from Hinds.
There’s also the small matter of Bridges previously playing the villain Iron Monger in the very first Iron Man movie. Bridges previously revealed he was originally supposed to survive beyond the first movie but was written out at the last minute, much to the chagrin of Bridges himself.
It’s probably also worth remembering that plenty of actors have batted for both Marvel and DC with Ben Affleck previously playing Daredevil. So, anything is possible.
