Tom Hiddleston could be facing competition from none other than Billy Elliott for the role of James Bond in 007’s next big screen outing.
Hiddleston had been the bookies’ favourite to step into the role of the world’s most famous secret agent after Craig turned down a blockbuster offer to appear in two more films.
But the Avengers star could now be facing fresh competition from Jamie Bell, who rose to fame as a boy in the dance-focused favourite Billy Elliott, before establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s rising stars.
According to a report from The Sun, influential producer Barbara Broccoli is a keen admirer of the actor, having worked with him on the upcoming Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool.
An insider said:
“Barbara has been a fan of Jamie for a long time and has even thought about him playing another role in the franchise before.
“Everyone remembers Jamie as the little boy in Billy Elliot, but he’s now got some serious roles under his belt.”
Despite this, Hiddleston remains at even to become the next James Bond with Poldark star Aidan Turner second in the betting at 3/1.
Bell’s odds have been slashed from the previous 20/1 to a much shorter 5/1.
Idris Elba, who ranks Sean Connery as his favourite Bond, is out at 8/1 while Tom Hardy can be backed for the role at the same price with the bookmaker.
Turner, meanwhile, came out on top in a poll of Loaded readers who were asked who they would like to see as the next James Bond.
