The reason behind John Cena’s shock split from fiancé Nikki Bella, just weeks before their wedding, has been revealed by an unnamed source close to the couple.
And before anyone out there gets ahead of themselves, let’s make one thing clear: it has nothing to do with Cena allegedly getting a boner during his Wrestlemania match with The Undertaker. That was just an unfortunate fold in his jeans. Probably.
Anyway, an unnamed source told PEOPLE Cena was behind the split, after seemingly deciding he had no space in his life for a wife or children. The move may also have come as Cena eyes a potential career in the movies, following the success of his comedy Blockers.
Cena is already being lined up to star in a big screen version of Duke Nukem and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of The Rock. The wrestling star had been dating Bella for six years prior to getting engaged just over a year ago at at WrestleMania.
According to the report, Bella is said to be heartbroken at the split. “She never gave him an ultimatum,” the source said, “But in that case, he never should’ve proposed, let alone in front of millions of people. Now she’s heartbroken.
“This was supposed to be the happiest time of her life. He ruined it and blew everything up.”
The pair had been set to wed in Mexico on May 5 but now those plans have been cancelled with the source claiming Cena has revealed his true colours.
The source added: “It wasn’t going to be some showy Hollywood, over-the-top glitzy thing.
“In wrestling there are two archetypes: faces and heels. A face is a good guy, a hero, who you root for. A heel is a villain, who sometimes can seem like a good guy but then turns around and shows his true, evil colours. John Cena just revealed himself as the ultimate heel.”
The fallout could now be chronicled on Nikki Bella’s reality series Total Divas. Cena, meanwhile, will be focusing on movie projects and ensuring he never wears denim in the ring again.
