Taylor Swift once famously declared that she did not need to remove her clothes to sell records, however, the video for new single “Ready for It” suggests otherwise.
Swift appears unclothed in the promo, with geometric lines of lights across her body.
Though she is most likely wearing a nude-coloured bodysuit, in a nod to Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost In The Shell remake, the choice of outfit contradicts much of what Swift has said about her image in the past.
Back in 2014, the pop sensation told America’s Glamour magazine: “I find it relatively easy to keep my clothes on because I don’t really feel like taking them off.
“It’s not an urge I have. For me, risky is revealing what really happened in my life through music.
“Risky is writing confessional songs and telling the true story about a person with enough details so everyone knows who that person is. That’s putting myself out there, maybe even more than taking my shirt off.”
Swift reiterated her stance again in 2015, stating: “My point is not to be sexy, my point is not to turn masses of people on.”
The comments were thought to be a thinly-veiled dig at fellow pop stars like Miley Cyrus, who earned a reputation for raunchy on-stage behaviour and nude antics in music videos like the one that accompanied the smash hit single “Wrecking Ball”.
Cyrus has been quick to highlight Swift’s hypocrisy in the past too, slamming her rival’s violent “Bad Blood” music video during an interview with Marie Claire.
“I don’t get the violence revenge thing. That’s supposed to be a good example?” she said.
“And I’m a bad role model because I’m running around with my titties out?
“I’m not sure how titties are worse than guns.”
This new clip is likely to further fuel the feud between the pair, though Cyrus has so far failed to comment on the new clip and shift in direction.
