A new generation of supermodels are taking over the world of fashion, and one of its brightest young stars has now been named international model of the year.
Fighting off competition from Kendall Jenner and sister Bella, Gigi Hadid won the International Model at the 2016 Fashion Awards last night (December 5).
The 21-year-old gave an emotional speech after receiving the award at the ceremony in London, and thanked her fans for their support.
“I just want to say that I know that I’m in the generation of social media, and I’m so blessed for that, but the fashion industry is my family, and you guys are the ones that I’m here for,” she told the crowd.
Struggling to hold back tears, Gigi went on: “To everyone who has been so genuine and looked beyond what the rest of the world looked for, that has meant so much to me.”

Gigi also posed for a high-fashion mannequin challenge while accepting the award.
It’s been a huge year for Gigi, who posed for Sports Illustrated back in February.
The last twelve months haven’t been without incident for Gigi either. The model was attacked by a prankster back in September, and she’s also been criticised for an ill-advised impression of Melania Trump.
