Heath Ledger was only 28 when he was found dead in his fourth-floor loft apartment in the SoHo area of Manhattan in January 2008.
It was a death that rocked Hollywood, not least because Ledger was at the peak of his career and about to return to the screen in what would prove to be a career-defining performance as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Yet there was so much more to Ledger, the man, than his many, many memorable on-screen turns in a diverse range of films that covered everything from intelligent teen-led comedies like 10 Things I Hate About You to the breath-taking Brokeback Mountain.
Ledger was never afraid to take risks, to live life to the very maximum and bare his soul to a watching public. It was this incredible energy and willingness to leave live every day as if it was his last that made him such a popular and much loved figure among those who knew him.
Now, for the first time, fans are being given a glimpse of the man behind the movies, via the documentary I Am Heath Ledger.
Created by the team behind the acclaimed Facing Ali, and using a combination of interviews, archive footage, home movies and family photographs, the film offers the most complete picture of Heath Ledger: the man, to date.
The film arrives in the UK for the first time on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital on 22 January 2018 and already looks unmissable.
