Anyone who made it through the near-three-hour running time for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have been confronted with a shock twist – the death of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel.
The superhero died at the hands of mutant monster Doomsday, but the closing moments of the film suggested a return in the forthcoming Justice League movie thanks to some rumbling bits of dirt above Clark Kent’s coffin.
That and the fact that the above poster for the Justice League film gives the game away by putting Superman front and centre.
There will, however, be one notable difference to the Man of Steel this time around – a brand new costume.
Henry Cavill revealed a close-up look at the black regenerative suit he’ll be wearing in Zack Snyder’s movie via Instagram.
Not only does this represent a colour-clash fashion disaster with Batman, but the dark tones also makes Superman look a bit like he’s in mourning for himself. Arrogant.
More seriously, this is a lift direct from the DC comic books. During the popular Death of Superman 90s storyline, the Man of Steel was resurrected in a black suit and even sported a huge beard and Bon Jovi-style mullet hairstyle.
Presumably Cavill’s Superman will follow this trend, before quickly shaving it all off to be a bit more presentable for the 21st century.
