It’s been nearly a decade since Heath Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose, but the late actor’s family are still seemingly finding it tough to deal with the loss.

Kim Ledger, the Oscar-winning actor’s father, has spoken about the last conversation the family had with Ledger in a new interview with News.com.au.

He revealed that Ledger’s sister Katie had spoken to him the night before he passed away to warn him about mixing prescription drugs.

“The last conversation Kate had with him was this discussion about his medications and she warned him.”

“The last conversation Kate had with him was this discussion about his medications and she warned him, ‘‘You can’t mix drugs that you don’t know anything about,’” Kim Ledger said.

“He said ‘Katie, Katie, I’ll be fine.’ Well, that’s a cavalier boy’s answer. It just put his whole system to sleep I guess.

He continued: “It was a one-off thing. That’s what killed us, because he was warned by his sister the night before: ‘You shouldn’t mix what you’re taking for pneumonia with your Ambien.’”

Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award for his role as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight, and with the DC Comics villain returning in Suicide Squad, Ledger’s iconic performance is again coming into focus through Jared Leto.

“Heath did an impeccable, perfect performance as the Joker,” Leto told Rolling Stone. “It’s one of the best performances ever in cinema… I didn’t know him well, but he was a beautiful person.”
