Harrison Ford whipped by dominatrix Barbra Streisand in bizarre Indiana Jones footage

At least it isn’t snakes.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is often pegged as the weird, dark outlier of the Indy movies thanks to its mad voodoo plot and questionable portrayal of Indian culture.

Adding even more fuel to the weirdness fire is lost footage from the making of the movie that shows Harrison Ford being whipped by Barbra Streisand in a dominatrix outfit. Yes, this actually happened.

The mad 80s moment has come back in focus thanks to new documentary Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made. The film charts the true story of two 11-year-olds from Mississippi who, every summer throughout the 80s, attempted to remake Raiders of the Lost Ark shot-for-shot.

“It involved a surprise cameo from Barbra Streisand in a dominatrix outfit whipping Harrison strapped to a rock.”

Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala eventually made Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation, and their scrappy fan film became a cult bootleg hit among Hollywood filmmakers.

Steven Spielberg himself eventually requested a meeting with Strompolos and Zala, and that’s when the filmmaker showed them the crazy Temple of Doom outtake in question.

Zala explained on The Q&A Podcast: “One of the best bits [we saw] was from Temple of Doom, and it involved a surprise cameo from Barbra Streisand in a dominatrix outfit whipping Harrison strapped to a rock before he’s attempted to be saved by Carrie Fisher, who says ‘I’ll save you, Han!’

“If that weren’t enough Irvin Kirshner, director of Empire Strikes Back steps into the frame and says ‘Steven, this just isn’t working.’”

Zala and Strompolos also offered up interesting insight into a question that film geeks have been asking for years: why does Spielberg never put deleted scenes on his DVDs?

“I work so very hard at creating the artifice, the illusion. That’s why on none of my DVDs include deleted scenes or bloopers,” Spielberg told them.

Here is a brief glimpse at that infamous Indy footage – complete with kinky Streisand – below…
