Gwyneth Paltrow has never been afraid to experiment when it comes to “managing” her vagina, but while the idea of applying scalding steam to your private region sounds painful enough, the actress’s latest innovation, involving a special egg could actually be lethal.
The Oscar-winner first courted controversy after taking to her website Goop to showcase the brand new range of rock-based eggs.
These rock solid eggs from designer Shiva Rose are meant to be placed in the vagina and kept there either all-day or all-night. At $66 an egg, that’s a lot of money for a rock.
The Goop product description reads:
“Fans say regular use increases chi, orgasms, vaginal muscle tone, hormonal balance, and feminine energy in general. Shiva Rose has been practicing with them for about seven years, and raves about the results; we tried them, too, and were so convinced we put them into the goop shop.”
Not everyone is convinced though.
In a post entitled “Dear Gwyneth Paltrow, I’m a GYN and your vaginal jade eggs are a bad idea”, Dr Gunter pours scorn and scepticism on the product’s claims that women can sleep with the rock in their vaginas.
“I would like to point out that Jade is porous which could allow bacteria to get inside and so the egg could act as a fomite. This is not good, in case you were wondering. It could be a risk factor for bacterial vaginosis or even the potentially deadly toxic shock syndrome.”
Sounds way too grim for $66. Perhaps stick to your day job Gwyneth.
