“No one will ever believe you.”

These are the six words that allegedly emerge from Bill Murray’s mouth every time he gatecrashes a stranger’s karaoke party, turns up at a student’s house to do the dishes or works behind that bar at his son’s boozer in New York.

Many Murray stories sound like urban legends, but the brilliant Bill Murray Stories website offers up conclusive proof about the Groundhog Day star’s eccentric ways – more often than not with pictorial evidence.

Then there are tales from people in the industry who know Murray. One of whom is Kelly Lynch, who starred with Murray in Charlie’s Angels and is married to Scrooged writer Mitch Glazer.

Lynch’s story about Murray is epic. One of sheer audacity, dedication and longevity. In fact, loaded would go as far to say it might be the greatest Bill Murray story ever told.

Lynch shot to fame in the 80s starring opposite Patrick Swayze flick Road House, and it boasts a steamy love scene backed by Otis Redding’s These Arms of Mine.

Watch the Road House sex scene that gets Bill Murray in the mood for fun:

Seeing Lynch in the arms of the Dirty Dancing heartthrob is a source of some amusement to Murray and his brothers. Particularly as they’re such close pals with the Glazer clan.

“Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They’re doing it. He’s throwing her against the rocks.”

She explained the whole story in a 2012 interview with AV Club.

“Bill Murray, every time Road House is on and he or one of his idiot brothers are watching TV—and they’re always watching TV—one of them calls my husband and says [in a reasonable approximation of Caddyshack’s Carl Spackler], ‘Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They’re doing it. He’s throwing her against the rocks.’

“[Away from the receiver.] What? Oh, my God. Mitch was just walking out the door to the set, and he said that Bill once called him from Russia.”

There’s no bad bloody between Lynch and Murray, though. Later in an interview with Chelsea Handler she admitted that when it comes to throwing parties, Murray is the life and soul of hers.

“Bill Murray crashes my parties,” she said. “And the thing about Bill is he loves to dance, and the thing about me is I do too. So we will find a party, or we will create a party, and we will dance.”

A prank spanning decades and incorporating one of the great cult movies of the 80s? Bill Murray stories don’t get much better than this.
