Spiders have long been a source of many a nightmare among the sensitive and easily scared, with their strange alien-like appearance and eight legs proving quite a potent and fearsome mix.

Perhaps that’s why the internet has been going crazy over Charlotte, the Australian huntsman spider that looks like something out of a horror movie.

First pictured at Barnyard Betty’s Rescue in Queensland back in October of last year, the images of the arachnid have since gone viral simply because, well, this spider is bloody huge.

Currently living out its days on the rescue centre’s farm, the spider bring memories of 90s chiller Arachnophobia flooding back.

Huntsman spiders are pretty common in Australia and are called as such because, rather than make webs to catch food, they tend to literally hunt down their pretty with everything from cockroaches to crickets consumed by these fearsome beasts.

You need not worry too much if you encounter one of these spiders though – they are not venomous and rarely attack people though it has been said that their bite can be quite painful.

Though it’s unclear just how big Charlotte really is, it’s worth noting that her body covers at least half of a standard broom head.

You would not want to find this spider in your bath any time soon, that’s for sure.
