Jason Momoa, the actor formerly known as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, could be set for a starring role in one of the most eagerly anticipated comic book movies in recent years and, no, we’re not talking about Aquaman.
Having already been given a taste of what to expect from Momoa as the King of Atlantis via Batman v Superman and some handily labelled computer desktop folders, the most exciting news concerning the 37-year-old revolves around a little film called The Crow.
James O’Barr’s cult comic book favourite from the 1980s has already been the subject of several big screen adaptations with the first and best coming back in 1994.
Directed by Alex Proyas and starring the late Brandon Lee alongside… Ernie Hudson from Ghostbusters, the film has enjoyed a cult following over the years.
The film is also notable for the shock on-set death of Lee, following an accidental shooting during a stunt gone wrong.
A box office success on its release, the film spawned four sequels with the last of these, 2005’s The Crow: Wicked Prayer, featuring Edward Furlong alongside Tara Reid and David Boreanaz, earning a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yikes.
Momoa could be the man to resurrect the franchise though, having already taken to Instagram to pose for a picture alongside the film’s director Corin Hardy.
While fans were, at first, baffled by the image and the cryptic message attached, reports have since suggested the pair have agreed to work together on the film, with a view to releasing the finished movie in 2018.
If it’s even half as enjoyable as the 90s original, loaded can’t wait.
