Game of Thrones star left red-faced after Iceland defeat

Hafthor Julius Bjornsson ended up looking a bit silly on social media.

As the fearsome and bloodthirsty knight The Mountain, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson has struck fear into the heart of many a Game of Thrones fan.

It’s a similar story in the real world, with the 27-year-old professional strongman most definitely not someone you would want to meet down a dark alley after one too many pints of Stella Artois.

But while Bjornsson may be a super-strong, super-scary bastard both on and off the big screen, he’s still susceptible to the occasional fail.

Hailing from Reykjavik, Iceland, the Game of Thrones strongman has been among the most vocal supporters of the national team at Euro 2016.

And he’s not been afraid of casting a bit of shade along the way either, with plenty of Iceland’s opponents put to the sword by the man mountain himself.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been among his many targets to date, with the Portugal captain coming in for an absolute hammering from Thor following a series of comments in which he criticized Iceland’s style of play.

But, much like Iceland’s fairytale journey to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, all good things must come to an end and that’s certainly been the case for Bjornsson.

Evidently in confident mood heading into their last-eight showdown with France, The Mountain uploaded the following ‘warning’ to France.

It was a warning Les Bleus evidently failed to heed, though it mattered little with Didier Deschamps’ ‘lucky’ side racing into a 4-0 lead by half-time.

Eventually beaten 5-2 by the hosts, the entire episode may just persuade Bjornsson to stick to what he knows best: lifting up boulders and bashing heads on HBO.
