Game Of Thrones sidelined the “tits and dragons” (largely) in its latest episode, Battle Of The Bastards, to concentrate on one thing: hardcore violence.

The episode aired overnight on HBO in the US and will be shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK from 9pm tonight (June 20). The spoiler-phobic among you may want to look away now, because details are forthcoming on the season six stabfest.

Kit Harington’s Jon Snow and Iwan Rheon’s Ramsay Bolton went head-to-head as two armies clashed in an insane battle for control of Winterfell.

Social media has gone into overdrive, praising the episode and director Miguel Sapochnik’s sensational battle sequences. Here’s a selection of some Twitter highlights after the show’s end credits rolled…

Game Of Thrones is swiftly making a name for itself as a show rivaling anything Hollywood has to offer. Season two episode Blackwater drew similar praise, and it looks like Battle Of The Bastards has managed to raise the bar even further.

Even hard-to-please TV critics were loving this latest Thrones episode. Here’s a taste of the reviews for this latest episode…

The Telegraph
“Oh now, that was VERY impressive. And by “impressive” we mean gruelling, cathartic and upsetting.”

IGN
“There were so many great, ferocious moments here, from Jon facing down Ramsay’s arrows with his a shield at the end, to Tormund killing SmallJon Umber in a fittingly intense manner, to the giant Wun Wun using his last breaths to break down the Winterfell gate.”

Deadline
“I hesitate to call tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones, Battle of the Bastards, the best in series history. Immediate emotional response to something electrifying has a way of coloring your view of history. But when the show ends and is taken as a whole, the episode will certainly be remembered as one of the all time greats.”
