A Spanish second division manager caught on camera head-butting his own player has refused to apologise for his actions.
Juan Antonio Anquela was spotted butting heads with his own player, David Lopez, during Huesca’s second tier clash with Getafe.
Lopez had appeared visibly upset at being substituted off the pitch in the promotion play-off between the two teams.
Anquela was having none of it though and was quick to confront the player over his sulky response. The heated exchange soon turned physical with the Huesca coach butting heads with Lopez and even pushing him at one stage.
The Spanish manager was unapologetic afterward though, telling Mundo Deportivo that the player had spoken out of line and he was simply not going to stand for it.
“The players always think they can talk and say what they want. And it can not be. He reproached me and I him. These are normal things inside a football team. I have not talked with him,” he said
“There is nothing to talk about. He knows what he has done. It seems that we have to keep quiet and nothing happens and that the footballer can always say what he wants. Respect has to be mutual.”
Alas for Anquela and Huesca, they won’t be arriving in La Liga anytime soon having gone down 3-0 to Getafe in the second leg of their play-off semi-final.
Having drawn the first leg 2-2, both club and manager are now facing up to another season in La Liga 2. In the case of the latter, that might just be for the best.
