The photo of a cake that Instagram thinks is porn

Phwoar... look at the frosting on that!

Instagram’s “No nipples” policy has taken a turn for the bizarre after a perfectly innocent photograph of a cake was mistaken for a breast – and caused its maker’s account to get shut down.

Chef Fiona Moseley revealed that the Easter simnel cake her sister Jenny made for their mother Sue caused Sue’s feed to fall foul of Instagram’s strict content guidelines.

Before you could say “Phwoar, Look at the frosting on that”, Sue was locked out of her account and sent a stern email.

“We disable accounts that post content that is sexually suggestive or contains nudity, the email read. “We understand that people have different ideas about what’s okay to share on Instagram. But to keep Instagram safe, we require everyone to follow our guidelines.”

Squint a bit at the picture and you could mistake it for some kind of flesh-coloured nipple shape. Ahem, possibly…

Fiona and family have launched a social campaign to appeal the decision, firing out hashtags like   and .

Jennifer even posted a photo of the same cake on Instagram to prove once and for all that her simnel is a nipple-free zone.

“I can only assume they’ve got some kind of recognition software that flags anything that looks remotely like a naked body part,” Fiona told Mashable. “My Mum was really sad about it, as she has lost all her Instagram photos and her account. She’s the loveliest person and only posts photos of her family, holidays and food and for that they’ve suspended her.”

Like all great triumph-against-adversity tales, the Moseleys’ had a happy ending. Upon appeal, the account is back up and running and Instagram issued an apology.

“We made a mistake here and restored the account as soon as we learned about it. Our apologies go out to Sue Moseley for the trouble we caused her,” they said.

My mum got her Instagram account back! Thanks for the support everyone! #boobgate #freethesimnel #simnelnotnipple
