Paul Walker’s brothers have revealed that the late actor might be making a comeback to the Fast & Furious series.
Walker died in a car crash in 2013 mid-way through shooting Fast & Furious 7, and his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker helped complete his role by acting as body doubles and aiding in the CGI recreation of his character Brian O’Connor.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the brothers said that franchise star/producer Vin Diesel had reached out to them to ask if it would be okay to feature Walker’s likeness in future films.
“[Diesel asked if it] would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul’s character back…”
“I had a phone call with Vin for about an hour and we really discussed this a while back,” Caleb said.
“He wanted [our] blessing. [Diesel asked if it] would be acceptable to maybe bring Paul’s character back… to really kind of let his fans know he’s still out there.”
Walker’s character got the perfect send-off in Fast & Furious 7, driving off into the sunset to leave Diesel’s Dom Toretto and a life of danger behind.
In the past CGI work has been used to complete an actor’s work on a single movie, but it’s unprecedented to recreate them – body, voice and all – for a new starring role.
Cody Walker has embarked on an acting career of his own since doubling for his late brother in Fast 7. He’ll be seen in the Nicolas Cage vs sharks historical epic USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage.
Fast & Furious 8 is due for release in April 2017. As yet there’s no official word on whether or not Brian O’Connor will be appearing.
