Fast And Furious Star Tyrese Gibson Lashes Out At Dwayne Johnson

These guys aren’t friends but they probably aren’t "family" either.

Fast and Furious cast.
Fast and Furious More furious than fast.

All is not well within the Fast and Furious family, after Tyrese Gibson hit out at co-star Dwayne Johnson, stating that he felt The Rock has “taken over” the franchise.

The criticism followed the news that the release of Fast and Furious 9 has been delayed by a year, with the next film in the franchise now expected to arrive in April 2020, rather than April 2019.

Taking to Instagram, Gibson appeared to suggest Johnson was behind the delay and was none too happy with the WWE star and actor.

“#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I’m just a passionate film critic.”

Evidently feeling that he hadn’t made his feelings clear, Gibson then posted a throwback picture of the original Fast and Furious cast alongside the following caption:

“Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family…… Until Dewayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn’t the ONLY ONE on the movie poster.

I guess dreams do come true congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily I tried to warn you guys… You thought I was hating…… I was simply fighting to keep the family together what makes us great is when you see us all TOGETHER we don’t fly solo….”

So why is Gibson blaming The Rock? It appears that he’s unhappy about the fact Johnson’s character, Hobbs, is getting his own spin-off alongside Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. This is apparently the reason why the next Fast and Furious installment is getting delayed, with the spin-off set to arrive in April 2019.

Gibson has previously expressed his unhappiness at the plans in a series of comments posted on The Rock’s Instagram, which have since been deleted. Underneath a picture of Johnson completing paperwork, Gibson wrote:

“If you move forward with that #Hobbs Movie you will have purposely ignored the heart to heart moment we had in my sprinter. I don’t wanna hear from you until you remember what we talked about. I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages – #FastFamily is just that a family…….. We don’t fly solo.”

“I have never and will never have a problem with this major movie star he’s my brother. I’m simply trying to reach him cause he won’t call me back about this solo #HobbsMovie I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can’t let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date…….. Didn’t you see how HUGE #Fast8 was? It’s because we announced and KEPT our release date bro.”

Evidently, all is not well among the Fast and Furious family. Johnson previously hit out at his male co-stars as “candy asses” in an Instagram post a few months back – evidently a criticism directed at Vin Diesel – while even Michelle Rodriguez has criticised the role of women in the franchise and threatened to quit. Gibson’s comments will have only added fuel to the fire.
