Blockbuster might have disappeared from high streets years ago, but it still holds a special place in the hearts of many people all over the world.

One person who is probably more passionate about the VHS and DVD rental brand than anyone else is 19-year-old Hector Zuniga, who got a Blockbuster-sized surprise recently.

In heart-warming news, the parents of Javier, who is autistic, have recreated a Blockbuster store in their home after their local branch in South Texas was closed down.

As their parents revealed during an interview with the Huffington Post, trips to Blockbuster had become something of a ritual for the family, and Javier has been a fan ever since he first visited aged 13.

When he learned of the store’s imminent closure, his father bought up a selection of stock to recreate it at home, and make sure Hector never went without it.

Hector’s brother Javier shared pictures of the surprise on Twitter, writing: “My autistic brother was sad that Blockbuster was closing down, so my parents made a mini one at home for him.”

After taking him to the store for the last time, and telling him it was shutting down, his father then told him that there was a surprise waiting for him at home.

“It’s hard for my son to express emotions, but when he saw the room [at home], his eyes were as big as saucers,” Mr Zuniga said.

“His way of saying ‘I love you,’ is by going up to you and grabbing your earlobe,” he said, which is exactly what his son did. “It was one of those moments that us parents live for.”

Blockbusters may be more-or-less defunct these days, but it’s nice to know it’s still bringing smiles to the faces of customers in 2017.

Meanwhile, loaded recently revealed that despite closing officially in 2013, Blockbuster is still alive and well in certain parts of the world.
