Emma Watson is close to overtaking Jennifer Lawrence as the world’s highest paid actress.
The Harry Potter star is on the brink of becoming the biggest earning female star in the industry thanks to her recent role in Beauty and the Beast, The Evening Standard reports.
Watson was allegedly paid $2.5m (£2m) upfront for starring in the film, and she’s also set to earn more than £15m from the movie later down the line.
The 27-year-old reportedly signed a deal that entitles her to a percentage of the film’s earnings, and it’s that windfall which will likely see her overtake Lawrence.
It was recently announced that Watson lost out on a role in La La Land to take on Beauty and the Beast, and while she missed out on a possible Oscar, Beauty and the Beast has worked out pretty well for her commercially.
Factor in the $63m (£50m) she is thought to have made for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, and her earnings are looking very health indeed.
“I think she has the world in the palm of her hand,” Liza Anderson, founder of Anderson Group Public Relations told The Evening Standard.
“She is the biggest star in the world right now. She can star in anything. She’s America’s sweetheart and she’s a global sweetheart. There’s no better position to be in right now. I’m sure she has Hollywood banging at her door.”
