The record-breaking teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just been crushed by an unlikely rival.
Emma Watson’s live-action take on Disney classic Beauty And The Beast notched up 91.8 million views in the first 24 hours of its release. That puts it ahead of the 88 million watches of that iconic “Chewie, we’re home” The Force Awakens trailer in 2015.
It also outpaces the 61 million views for Captain America: Civil War and 34 million for Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The one thing they all have in common is Disney. When it comes to movies everybody is gagging to see, it seems like you’re hard-pressed to beat the House of Mouse.
Notch Beauty And The Beast’s success up to a less-is-more approach. The teaser barely shows viewers anything, just assorted shots of Beast’s castle, fleeting voices and Watson’s Belle coming into focus as she reaches for a rose.
The Harry Potter star will feature alongside an impressive cast of Brit acting heavyweights including Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Kevin Kline, Josh Gad and Stanley Tucci round out the line-up for the film, which is being directed by Bill Condon.
Beauty And The Beast will hit cinemas on March 17, 2017.
