Edgar Wright sent Star Wars fans into a frenzy recently, after dropping a huge hint that he was directing a new movie in the franchise – but which film could he be attached to?
The filmmaker, known for his comedy movies Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, suggested that he could be joining the movie series later this year, and although further details have yet to emerge, it’s certainly intriguing news.
Fans have already begun speculating online that Wright could be involved in resurrecting the Boba Fett spin-off, which was put on hold last year.
Chronicle filmmaker Josh Trank had been attached to helm the movie since 2015, but it reportedly fell through before Disney announced it in 2016.
However, if new reports are to be believed, the film is still being worked on by he studio. Star Wars news Net reported last month that the film is currently still being developed, and ‘won’t be what you’d expect’.
While a new director for the film has yet to be announced, the ‘unconventional’ manner of the new movie could potentially point to Wright’s involvement in some capacity.
Further details have yet to emerge, but if Edgar Wright is involved in the franchise in some way, the Boba Fett movie is the most likely project.
After all, it would make sense given recent directional appointments; Disney are gaining a reputation for hiring ‘indie’ filmmakers to helm the movies, after bringing on Gareth Edwards, Rian Johnson for The Last Jedi and Colin Trevorrow for Episode IX.
Wright is best known for his ‘Cornetto trilogy’ comedy films with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, as well as 2010’s cult hit Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and he could be the perfect man to take the Boba Fett spin-off in a fresh, and unexpected direction.
It all comes after he was asked by CNET whether he would ever consider directing a Star Wars movie, and he replied: “I guess so, yeah. Yeah. I have something crazy, but I can’t tell you.”
“You’ll see at Christmas,” he added.
Wright has denied the Star Wars rumours on Twitter, but that’s arguably not an indication of much at the moment, as Disney would want to keep the news under wraps were it true.

It might be wishful thinking, but he could even be referring to the fact that he wouldn’t be directing a straight Star Wars movie, but a spin-off instead.
Only time will tell of course, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Wright announced as the new director of the Boba Fett spin-off before the year is out.
