Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is teaming up with the co-writer of the The Office, Stephen Merchant, for a film focusing on the life and times of current WWE superstar Paige.

And if that doesn’t sound like an unusual enough film project already, it’s just been announced by Johnson himself that the upcoming movie will feature a couple of familiar faces from Game of Thrones and Shaun of the Dead.

The Furious 8 star took to Instagram to announced that Lena Headley, otherwise known as Cersei Lannister, and Nick Frost, otherwise known as Simon Pegg’s mate, would be appearing in Fighting with My Family.

Our @sevenbucksprod welcomes to our #FightingWithMyFamily cast these two amazing actors. The brilliant/Bad Ass @iamlenaheadey and another Brit who's often mistaken as my twin, the genius @FriedGold (Nick Frost). Excited about these roles because Lena and Nick are playing Julia and Ricky – @realpaigewwe's mom and dad. Both Paige and myself are 3rd generation performers with a long history in the unique and crazy world of pro wrestling. Both our families made bones on the circuit by promoting small gritty wrestling shows to make a buck (my grandmother was the first ever female wrestling promoter in the early 80's and to say that she was "hard core" is an understatement). Ricky and Julia have that hard core DNA too – they do what they gotta do to get the job done. And in the end it always comes down to taking care of your family at all costs. Very cool to see so many brilliant actors respond to our script. Our writer/director Stephen Merchant did a fantastic job and I'm excited to work with him again. We worked together in The Tooth Fairy. He was an asshole then and things haven't changed. #FightingWithMyFamily #LenaHeadey #NickFrost

Based on a documentary of the same name, the film looks set to chronicle Paige’s rise to the top of WWE.

Predicted to be a gritty, back-to-basics origins story that’s in keeping with more recent in-the-ring fare like The Wrestler, hopes are high for the new project.

Much of the film’s focus will be on Paige’s emergence in the world of sports entertainment, set against the backdrop of a family of professional wrestlers, each with their own colourful pasts.

The third generation of her family to step into the ring Paige’s mother, Julia, enjoyed a career as a wrestler while her father, Ricky, was an alleged reformed gangster.

BREAKING: Our @sevenbucksprod is excited to announce production on a cool project we've been working on for years based on a very unique and gritty professional wrestling family and a their daughter's journey into the spotlight of the WWE. "Fighting With My Family" Years ago (2012) while shooting Fast & Furious in London, I was up at 3am (too much caffeine) and stumbled upon a documentary on a UK station about a local wrestling family and their daughter's unlikely journey into the global spotlight. That daughter, is current WWE Women's Superstar, Paige. The family strong element I saw in the doc, is what grabbed my attention. That no matter how crazy life gets, no matter how dysfunctional our families can sometimes be and especially regardless of how much we fight – we're always there for each other when it counts. That's what families do. My gut said there was a great movie to be made so I sent to my agent Brad Slater at WME who loved it. He sent it to my long time ace producer Kevin Misher, who immediately responded to the doc and he thought we should go after one of our favorite writer/directors for material like this, Stephen Merchant. Merchant, being from the UK, locked in to a strong POV and vision of how gritty and heartfelt this film needs to be and the rest is history. Pleasure to partner with WWE Studios and Film 4 to bring this cool story to life. Paige and I both know what it's like to come from a wrestling family who's had it's good and hard times. Her and I have talked about this project for years now and we're all excited to bring her and her family's story to life. Cool casting announcements coming this week! #FightingWithMyFamily #SevenBucksProds #MisherFilms #WWEFilms #Film4 #BevisFamily #SquaredCircleDNA

With Headley and Frost reportedly stepping into those two roles, respectively, it appears that work on this WWE-sanctioned movie is moving at a quick pace.

Despite this, there is no word yet on who will play Paige, though it’s likely the real-life version of the grappler will cameo alongside Johnson.

Due to be written and directed by Merchant, Fighting with My Family is fast shaping up to be one of the more unusual movie projects on the horizon.
