With 32 teams playing 64 matches lasting a minimum of 90 minutes each, football fans would be forgiven for missing some of the World Cup action in Russia.
Work, school and other unforeseen commitments can all get in the way of the football fiesta on occasion. That’s just life.
But one fanatic in Holland has gone to extreme lengths to ensure he doesn’t miss a single minute of action at the World Cup – and the Dutch didn’t even qualify!
Eager to remove himself from any of the distractions/commitments that accompany normal adult life, Stein Spijkerman has rented out a flat to watch the duration of the tournament in.
He’s also booked the entire month off work, meaning he’s free to watch all of it.
Leased on a month-long contract, the apartment is pretty bare save for a bed, armchair, coffee machine, and a wall-mounted flat-screen television.
He’s got a balcony too, if he ever fancies a bit of fresh in those hour-or-so breaks between games.
Quite who Stein feels the need to hide from is unclear, but he’s loving his new set up, even if he does appear to be watching all of the games on his own.
“I haven’t missed a single second,” he told Dutch news source NI, delightedly.
Evidently enjoying his World Cup holiday, Stein still has another two weeks of football action to enjoy and the drama of the knockout phase.
We’re suddenly very jealous.
