Alien: Covenant is a matter of weeks away from arriving in cinemas but in the meantime two new teasers have offered up another glimpse of what to expect from Ridley Scott’s return to the franchise where he made his name.
The two clips take the form of special video messages left by the crew for their families back home and paint a bleak picture of what to expect.
One centres on the character of Daniels, played by Katherine Waterston, who is fast shaping up to be Covenant’s answer to Ripley if the film’s trailers are anything to go by.
The second, meanwhile, centres on Billy Crudup’s character Oram, someone who appears doomed to meet a grizzly, face-hugger-based end if the first few clips of the film are to be believed.
In both clips, the pair can be seen sending tense messages home, with the footage for each seemingly interrupted with clips of the Covenant team traversing the seemingly “uncharted paradise” of a planet hiding a dark secret.
As well as showing the group on foot and in peril, the video diaries also feature blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearances from the Engineers that featured in Prometheus and their mysterious alien ship.
The question is whether the video diaries are merely messages to family or final goodbyes before the pairing meet their end at the hands of the planet’s potential xenomorph inhabitants.
With rumours already abound that Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw is long dead, something tells us things may end on a low note in Alien: Covenant.
Alien: Covenant arrives in cinemas on May 12.
