Comic book movie fans have been given their biggest taste yet of what to expect from Josh Brolin as Cable in the upcoming Deadpool 2 with a brand new, and totally bizarre trailer.
The film sees Ryan Reynolds return as Wade Wilson, the wisecracking mercenary who becomes the masked avenger Deadpool after an experiment leaves him with an accelerated healing ability but also severe scarring all over his body.
This time around he’s teaming up with Cable, aka Nathan Summers, a time travelling cybernetic mutant soldier. They are going up against Jack Key’s Black Tom Cassidy, a Marvel super villain who can manipulate energy through plants.
John Wick and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch is helming the project, with TJ Miller and Morena Baccarin both returning for the sequel.
The first Deadpool film was both a financial and critical success, earning $783 million against a $58 million budget and setting a new record for the overall highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, so hopes are high for the follow-up.
And while details remain scarce, this latest clip from the film offers up the clearest glimpse yet of what to expect with Deadpool back on quipping good form and Cable ready to kick ass.
Quite where the plot will take them is unclear, though Brolin has signed a four-film deal to play Cable, meaning Deadpool 2 will likely serve as an introduction to that character ahead of more movies to come.
Deadpool 2 plot details remain unclear, with the official synopsis offering up plenty of laughs but little in the way of substance:
“After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfil his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavour – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”
Funny, eye-catching and a thoroughly intriguing prospect, Deadpool 2 arrives in cinemas on May 16 and is shaping up nicely.
