Dave Bautista is a man of many talents: wrestler, actor, fitness fanatic, comedian and occasional break dancer.
What loaded never had him down as, however, was a football fan and certainly not a West Ham supporter (he always struck us as more of a Fulham enthusiast).
That’s all about to change with the release of his newly bonkers action thriller Final Score, which looks set to do for football stadiums, what Die Hard did for skyscrapers.
The John McClane comparisons don’t end there either, with Final Score boiling down to a cross between Die Hard and the Danny Dyer classic The Football Factory.
And if that kind of crazy crossover doesn’t float your boat, you’re clearly in the wrong place.
Written by The Brothers Lynch and directed by Scott Mann, Final Score sees Bautista take on the role of Michael Knox, a former soldier attended a Hammers match who is forced into action when a heavily armed gang of criminals take the entire stadium hostage.
It’s up to Knox to save the 35,000 watching on and the young woman he’s attending the game with from the clutches of the criminal gang led by the ever-menacing Ray Stevenson.
Similar in some senses to the Jean-Claude Van Damme classic Sudden Death, which saw JCVD take down a bunch of bad guys holding an entire NHL ice hockey crowd hostage.
This movie has one ace up its sleeve though in the form of Pierce Brosnan, who pops up in an unspecified role.
More importantly, if the trailer is anything to go by, it would appear that Bautista ends up driving a motorbike off the top of one stand and onto another. That stunt alone is worth the admission fee.
Filmed in and around West Ham’s former home, the Boleyn Ground, Final Score is released on 7 September 2018. Sky Cinema customers have exclusive access to see it on Sky Cinema from the same day.
