No animals were harmed during the making of Batman Returns in 1992, but the same can’t be said for some of the actors…
Danny DeVito recently revealed he suffered a nasty injury while in character as the villainous Penguin, when he was bitten in the balls by a monkey on set.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, the actor said a monkey was supposed to hand him a note during a scene, but ended up attacking him instead.
“The monkey was coming to deliver a note to the Penguin from Batman,” he said on the show.
DeVito described how Tim Burton talked him through the scene, explaining how the monkey would come down the set and hand him a note.
However, it sounds like the monkey got a bit freaked out by his costume, and ended up biting him high up on the thigh.
DeVito added: “Thank God I’m in this suit that was full of all this padding… He took a big, big mouthful. I didn’t feel a thing, thank God.”
The actor put the incident behind him, and put in a memorable performance as The Penguin. Watch the trailer for Batman Returns below:
