Dakota Johnson is now officially bigger than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The trailer for the actress’s Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker was unveiled earlier this week and managed to rack up a staggering 114 million views within its first 24 hours.
This tops the previous record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which netted 112 million views in its first day online.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the Fifty Shades Darker trailer pulled in 39.4 million views from the US, while international plays accounted for 74.6 million.
The UK and Brazil were the best-performing nations when it came to viewership.
You’d never expect Christian Grey’s private jet to outrun Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon, but life is full or surprises.
Fifty Shades Darker, starring Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Kim Basinger, Eloise Mumford and Marcia Gay Harden, will be opening in cinemas on February 10, 2017.
Its predecessor earned a hefty $570 million at the worldwide box office in 2015, delivering a huge profit for a film that cost a relatively thrifty (by Hollywood standards) $40 million.
Based on these trailer figures, it looks like the sequel could surpass its predecessor.
