If Conor McGregor does decide to sign up for a stint in WWE then Vince McMahon had best watch out because The Notorious may have a showdown with the company boss in his sights.
McMahon famously fought with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in the late 90s heyday of sports entertainment where the Texas Rattlesnake famously clashed with the WWE chief’s authoritarian stance.
The pair’s (entirely fictional) running battles were a key component of the highly successful “Attitude Era” and it would appear McGregor is looking to take on a role not-too-dissimilar to Austin’s almost two decades ago.
Quizzed on the topic of whether he would be signing up for a stint in WWE, McGregor took the opportunity to hit out at McMahon after the wrestler business giant claimed the Notorious stole the now-famous “billionaire strut”.
McGregor made the walk famous after his record-breaking victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 but the walk had previously been made popular by McMahon.
Not that the MMA legend cares.
“I don’t give a f*ck about Vince McMahon,” McGregor said in quotes carried by mmafighting.com.
“I stole that walk, and that walk is now mine. And not Vince, or any of those p*ssies over at the WWE will do anything about it. That’s my walk. I created that walk. I made that walk.”
However, the vitriol directed towards the WWE chief may all be for show, with McGregor going on to hint at a possible stint in the world of sports entertainment.
“Never say Never. I’ll love to go into that WWE and have a real knock,” he told the website.
“Let one of them have a real knock and see what’s what. But we’ll see. There’s conversations ongoing.”
Anything is possible for The Notorious.
