The San Diego Comic Con is fast gaining a reputation as something approaching Christmas for TV and movie trailer geeks.
2017 proved no different, with a veritable feast of previews put forward for everything from Thor: Ragnarok to Stranger Things Season 2. With that in mind, loaded has put together a list of the 11 most exciting trailers to debut at San Diego Comic Con. Here we go…
It’s not the first trailer for Thor’s third solo outing but it’s by far the funniest and most action-packed yet. The long-teased gladiator battle between Thor and Hulk is going to be epic for starters while Cate Blanchett also looks suitably villainous, Plus, anything involving Tom Hiddleston as Loki has got to be worth watching.
Star Trek: Discovery
Whether you consider yourself a fan or not, there’s something comforting about seeing Star Trek back on the small screen and after the major mis-step that was Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Discovery looks like a Battlestar Galactica-style return to form. Great to see the Klingons back in action too.
Netflix’s small screen answer to The Avengers seemed like a tall order on paper, especially considering how much everybody hated the Iron Fist series, but from the looks of this trailer, The Defenders is shaping up nicely. That may have something to do with the casting of Sigourney Weaver as the show’s main villain – it seems like Marvel are finally getting to grips with compelling bad guys.
When the idea for this Will Smith movie was first pitched, most of us over at loaded were pretty skeptical to say the least. That changed the minute we saw the trailer though with Smith back to his wise-cracking best in a fantasy action movie that has more in common with Alien Nation than Lord of the Rings. With David Ayer directing, this is suddenly looking an intriguing prospect.
After everyone lost their collective shit over the first season of Stranger Things, the pressure is on creators the Duffer Brothers to deliver more of the same without suffering the issues that have befallen many a show over the years (Heroes, anyone?) Fortunately, this trailer hints at good, if strange, things to come.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Kingsman was an absolute blast from start to finish, so loaded is delighted to report that, from all indications so far, the sequel is going to be even more bonkers. Crazy fights, London-based action, a globe-trotting storyline and an unconventional villain in Julianne Moore – there’s almost too much to talk about in this trailer and that’s before we even mention Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum!
The Walking Dead
Let’s be frank: seventh season of The Walking Dead was an absolute bust. Over 16 episodes the AMC series built towards the mother of all zombie battles. The only problem was, said battle never arrived. The eighth series is now being pitched as the one where Andrew Lincoln’s Rick finally comes to blows with Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s bat-swinging Negan. It had better have been worth the wait.
After the back-to-back messes of Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad, DC finally got their shit together with the Wonder Woman movie. And thank God they did, because now we can finally look forward to the Justice League movie with some renewed optimism. This trailer offers the first glimpse of what to expect and it’s pretty spectacular.
Ready Player One
Based on the hugely popular book of the same name, several studios battled to get the rights to the novel for the big screen. Warner Bros. won through and promptly got the best man on board to adapt it: Steven Spielberg. Looking suitably eye-catching and similarly epic, if Spielberg is able to recreate even half of what is in the book, he’ll have done a fine job. He’s made a good start here though.
Make no mistake: Westworld was the best thing on TV in 2016. Boasting an incredible cast full of standout performances, a twist-filled, thought-provoking storyline and an incredibly cinematic look, it appears every bit the natural successor to Game of Thrones HBO must have been hoping it would become The trailer for the second season, due in 2018, does not disappoint either.
Avengers: Infinity Wars

Alright, so maybe it’s cheating to include this since the trailer hasn’t officially been posted online yet, but Avengers: Infinity Wars is undoubtedly the most hotly anticipated of all the comic book movie adaptations arriving in the next couple of years.
If they can put together a movie featuring the many, many characters on offer at Marvel that makes sense and is compelling, it will prove something of a masterstroke. But that’s still a big if.
