There is a weird new food trend hitting the brunch table, and it’s inspired by… the sky?
‘Cloud eggs’ have emerged as the hipster way to eat breakfast, and it’s inspired by the wave of Instagrammers more likely to snap a unique food plate than actually eat it.
Chefs across the country have been coming up with their own versions of the ‘cloud egg’, which is essentially a really cool-looking baked egg.
While some might prefer their eggs cooked in a more traditional way (see our guide to perfect scrambled eggs here), others who want to try something new should give this a go.
The look of cloud eggs is created by whipping separated egg whites into a meringue-like texture, then layer dollops of “clouds” onto a baking sheet.
Then, pop them in the oven at 230 degrees Celsius for five to eight minutes, before adding the yolk and bake for an additional three minutes. Voila! You have your very own Instagram-worthy breakfast.
