Chelsea Handler and Netflix are about to break new ground with the first ever streaming talk show.

Titled simply Chelsea, the series has confirmed its premiere date for May 11 with new 30-minute episodes arriving on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Handler may not be as immediately recognisable as, say, a Jimmy Fallon, James Corden or Graham Norton – but she built up cred thanks to her frank and filthy Chelsea Lately series on E! Oh, and she once dated 50 Cent.

Her E! show ended in 2014, but expect her to carry on the tradition of getting her guests to squirm awkwardly when Chelsea starts next week.

“You can say anything it’s Netflix,” she says. With Handler at the helm you can pretty much bank on this being essential viewing.

There’s also a trailer for the series, and a stellar line-up of guests for week one.

Wednesday, May 11

Guests: Drew Barrymore, Pitbull and US Secretary of Education John B King

Handler will address the college education she never had in the series opener, discussing with guests and closing with a special Netflix University segment (whatever that is).

Thursday, May 12

Guests: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tony Hale, and TEDTalk’s Chris Anderson

Handler will head south of the border to explore the phenomenon of Telenovelas in Mexico

Friday, May 13

Guests: Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, and Frank Grillo

Handler tries to get her head around the ever-expanding world of Marvel comics with the cast of Captain America: Civil War.
