Now this one’s a turn up for the books…

New Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti will make a cameo appearance in blockbuster movie Star Trek Beyond.

“The husband of actress Zoe Saldana is Italian and I have a good relationship with the family.”

The former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss revealed to Sky Sports that he’ll feature in director Justin Lin’s sci-fi spectacular.

In true Hollywood fashion, this has nothing to do with acting prowess or untapped Daniel Day-Lewis-style skill on Ancelotti’s part, more about who he knows.

“The husband of actress Zoe Saldana [who plays Uhura in the films] is Italian and I have a good relationship with the family,” he said. “They were in Vancouver to film the movie and they asked me to come and watch. I went, spoke to the director and he said ‘I’ll put you in – small part’.”

Next season Ancelotti will step into the dugout at Bayern hoping to beam up a Champions League trophy, the one prize his predecessor Pep Guardiola wasn’t able to conjure up.

Star Trek Beyond will see Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto return to the roles of Captain Kirk and Spock, with Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg also back on the USS Enterprise.

This time around the crew faces a new enemy in the form of Idris Elba’s alien threat Krall.

Star Trek Beyond will hit cinemas on July 22 to mark the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek airing on TV.
