Fans have been given their first extended glimpse of Cara Delevingne and Rihanna alongside Dane DeHaan in the trailer for Luc Besson’s latest film Valerian.
The film, which has more than a hint of the French filmmaker’s classic sci-fi adventure The Fifth Element to, is based on the popular comic book series of the same name.
It sees DeHaan’s Valerian paired with Delevingne’s Laureline as a pair of special operatives charged with maintaining order in the human territories.
Sent to the stunning metropolis of Alpha, the pair must race to identify the mysterious dark force threatening to destroy the City of a Thousand Planets.
The eye-catching trailer sees the pair pitted alongside any number of bright and colourful alien beings as well as Clive Owen, for good measure.
Fifth Element comparisons aside, the trailer also offers a glimpse of Delevingne in only her second major action role after last summer’s Suicide Squad.
The model turned actor divided critics of the DC Comics movie last time out, but appears to be on steadier ground with this sci-fi effort.
Elsewhere another relative newcomer is out to silence her doubters.
Rihanna previously won a Razzie award for her debut performance in boardgame-turned-movie Battleship.
However, she looks to be back on more familiar ground as a futuristic cabaret star here in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance.
Valerian arrives in cinemas on 4 August.
