Bubbles: 7 Things You Never Knew About Michael Jackson’s Pet Chimp

A closer look at the world’s most famous primate.

Moving On

Ultimately Bubbles was moved on by Michael Jackson after becoming prone to loud and occasionally aggressive outbursts. Concerned for the safety of his son, Prince Michael II, MJ had the chimp moved to an animal sanctuary, which turned out to be Bob Dunn’s California ranch.

While he saw Jackson less and less over the years that followed, Bubbles did find some happiness after moving to the Center for Great Apes in Florida where he was engaged in activities like painting and playing the flute, at a cost of around $17,000 a year to Jackson’s estate.

Still only in his early 30s, the chimp could live on to as old as 60.
