Britney Spears says what everyone’s thinking about that MTV python performance

It's her one "dumb" career regret.

It’s been 15 years since Britney Spears stunned viewers of the 2001 MTV VMAs with a python-assisted performance of I’m A Slave 4 U.

The routine is pretty much seared into the memory of everyone who laid eyes on it – that albino snake and green bikini combo is one of those iconic Britney images that’ll stay with her for decades.

However, the pop queen has finally revealed her thoughts on that performance – and she’s vocalised what many will have thought when they watched it for the first time: that snake is scary as hell.

“It’s insane! Why did I do that?”

“It’s insane! Why did I do that?” Spears said to E! when quizzed about the moment.

Would she ever do it again? “Hell, no! It’s so dumb. No! Never!”

It’s hard to blame her. Her slithering friend was a real-life Burmese python, one of the five largest species of snakes in the world.

Aside from dicing with death, 2001 went pretty well for Spears. Later in the year she put out her third album, Britney, which spawned six singles and was the fifth biggest-selling record of 2001 on the Billboard Global Album Charts.

Spears is due to release a new single, titled Make Me, next month before her latest album debuts later this year.
