A US court has heard that Britney Spears’ drug use got so bad that she slept in a car park.
Spears is said to have spent a night sleeping rough after she lost custody of her two sons with ex-huband Kevin Federline, according to her ex-manager.
Court documents filed at the California Court of Appeals by former manager Sam Lutfi claim that he is still owed “unpaid earnings” from the singer.
Spears, who currently has a Las Vegas residency and has been looking better than she has in years, famously went off the rails in 2007.
Documents seen by TMZ state Spears met Lutfi when her life was in turmoil as she was embroiled in her divorce from Federline and an ensuing custody battle over their sons – Preston, 10, and Jaden, nine – and was estranged from her parents.
The papers also stated: “In addition, she was struggling with drug abuse.”
According to the documents, Lutfi advised Spears of “the importance of getting clean.” Further papers claimed: “She spent a night in a parking lot, then called Sam and told him he was one of the few people she trusted.”
However, 34-year-old Spears’ family claim Lutfi is the one who supplied her with drugs.
Court papers further claim the singer asked Lutfi to manage her and he accepted on two conditions; that she would let him assemble a team, and stop abusing drugs. He also insisted on being able to use drug sniffer dogs to make sure she stayed sober.
After losing her children in early 2008, Spears was admitted to a psychiatric ward on an involuntary hold. She was then placed under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet.
Spears currently has her Piece Of Me show in Las Vegas – a two-year residency that has so far seen sell-out audiences and good reviews. She is also said to be recording new music for her first album since 2013.
