Every generation needs its defining giant shark movie. First, we had Jaws, then came Deep Blue Sea. More recently we’ve seen the over-the-top Sharknado series.

Now comes the killer shark movie we’ve all been waiting for: Blake Lively’s, The Shallows.

The film’s latest trailer, viewable below, shows the one-time Gossip Girl play a surfer who’s cut adrift from the shore with one massive fish standing between her and safety. A damn site scarier than our recently featured Instagram star Bre Tiesi, who shed her bikini for a dip with smaller fry.

The promo clip features no dialogue from its leading lady, instead bringing in a voiceover from what sounds like an old American instructional video.

“A little dose of self-reliance can do wonders. Now you may think that’s the end of the story? Actually, it’s only the beginning,” says voiceover man cryptically.

The Shallows, Lively’s first major movie in a lead role, looks like a mad mix of Jaws, Cast Away, 127 Hours and Gravity. The film is going to be about one thing, and that’s survival against all odds (prediction: she’ll probably make it).

The Shallows will open in cinemas on August 12.
