Blake Lively sparks race row after ill-advised “booty” Instagram post

Blake Lively has found herself at the centre of a Twitter row over race after posting a picture of her posterior online alongside a quote many are labelling inappropriate.

The 28-year-old is currently wowing the crowds at Cannes with her eye-catching choice of attire and performance in upcoming survival horror thriller The Shallows.

But all anyone is talking about right now is Lively’s bum, after the former Gossip Girl star decided to share a picture of her posterior on Instagram.

Sporting a gold Atelier Versace dress, the split shot post is captioned with the lyric “An L.A. Face with an Oakland Booty.”

Now, as any fan of early 90s rap will tell you, said lyric comes from Sir Mix-a-lot’s seminal hit “Baby Got Back.”

However, that has not prevented some from hitting out at the Hollywood actress for using two phrases – L.A. face and Oakland booty – with racial connotations.

Their use is made all the more galling for the fact that, in the eyes of many, Lively represents middle white America as one of the country’s leading ladies and most famous beautiful blondes.

Lively has since returned to Instagram to post a picture of her latest jewellery but has so far refused to engage in the debate currently surrounding her social media uploads.

She has plenty of supporters online, though, with several Twitter users taking to the platform to claim that the entire situation has been blown out of proportion.

Whatever your opinion, the debate around Lively looks likely to continue for the next couple of days.
