Beerfest, the ultimate booze-based bro comedy, is getting a sequel according to the makers of the original cult classic.
Released back in 2006, Beerfest told the story of a rag-tag group of friends, who decide to take on some of Europe’s finest booze drinkers in a series of beer drinking challenges for the ages.
Delightfully daft and very, very funny, the film has earned something of a following among comedy movie buffs and beer lovers alike in the years since. And now the team behind the film, comedy troupe Broken Lizard, have confirmed that plans are in place for a sequel.
Broken Lizard are currently doing a promotional tour for another long-awaited sequel to one of their best loved movies, Super Troopers, and it would appear another follow-up is on the cars.
Speaking during a Q&A session to promote the new movie, director and Broken Lizard member Jay Chandrasekhar was asked whether Beerfest 2 was happening.
His response was short but to the point. “We have a story for it. So yeah.” There are no details yet on what to expect from the sequel, though it’s likely all of the original stars will return.
Fans will also recall that the original Beerfest ended with the gang heading off to participate in Potfest with Willy Nelson, so that’s definitely one option.
Broken Lizard may turn to crowdfunding to get the film made, having already raised a significant amount of the budget for Super Troopers 2 via this method.
In any case, with Hollywood currently inundated with plans for sequels, prequels and remakes, this is one that loaded is definitely looking forward to.
