Batgirl is finally getting her own movie and it’s coming from the genius behind Buffy and Firefly, Joss Whedon.
The multi-talented Whedon is in talks with Warner Bros to write, direct and produce a still untitled Batgirl movie – which is very exciting news for fans of the DC universe.
Batgirl – aka Barbara Gordon – soon became an iconic figure after debuting in 1967 and has since become one of the most popular superheroes in the world. For some reason, though, she still has never had her own film.
Just a smattering of appearances throughout television and film history exist, including a cringeworthy performance by Alicia Silverstone in the ill-fated George Clooney-fronted Batman & Robin in 1997. Her costume is still one giant mistake…
Starship Troopers star Dina Meyer also brought Batgirl to life in the short-lived series “Birds of Prey.”
Nevertheless, we have some ideas of who would be perfect in the role. See below our nine picks for Barbara Gordon.
She more than held her own against a giant shark in The Shallows, and with Deadpool (her husband Ryan Reynolds) already in her family, we’re thinking she needs to join in the fun.
The stunning British actress caught the eye in Concussion and the otherwise diabolical Jupiter Ascending – she could bring a great deal of sophistication to the role.
The fiery redhead who uttered arguably one of the most famous lines on Game of Thrones, could be just what Gotham needs to get shit done. We may not know much, but we know that.
She’s statuesque and has already more than impressed on Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. We think this gorgeous blonde would be a great choice for Barbara.
She’s practically an expert on superheroes by now having played both Katniss Everdeen and Mystique. We think she’d bring humour and power to this role. Plus, there’s no such thing as too much Jennifer Lawrence.
The actress is no stranger to gritty roles with her turns in movies like Need For Speed and Frank & Lola, we think she’d make a great choice for the crime fighter.
The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies star fought the undead in 19th century England for goodness sake, the former ballerina can more than hold her own with the physical demands of such a role.
She was fantastic in the critically acclaimed American Honey, and the gorgeous actress would be a fresh take on an old character.
She’s the daughter of Prince Leia and has quite the hollywood pedigree, but we think Billie is facetious and talented enough to make batgirl both funny and fierce.
May the best woman win.
