Japanese heavy metal/pop band Babymetal are to be featured in a short-form live-action/animated action-adventure hybrid TV series.

The as-of-yet untitled project is still in the early stages of development and talks with distribution outlets are currently ongoing.

The series will be mostly set in a magical world where one lonely god known as Kitsune forms the warrior band Babymetal to save the land after it comes under attack.

The Babymetal girls will be able to enter this animated world through a secret portal and the show will also feature live-action performances from the band, reports Deadline.

“Babymetal have to be seen to be believed — a mind-blowing, fun combination of pop vocals, heavy-metal music and dance choreography brought to life by three incredibly talented teenage stars.” said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series.

The trio, known as Yuimetal, Su-metal and Moametal, have shot to international fame with their unusual blend of heavy-metal music with more pop-orientated dance choreography.

Babymetal formed in 2010 and have so far released two albums, Babymetal in 2014 and Metal Resistance in 2016. Their single Gimme Chocolate!! has racked up over 60 million views on YouTube.
