The Assassin’s Creed trailer has arrived and it’s brilliantly bonkers

Oh Michael Fassbender, what big shiny knives you have…

The first proper trailer for Michael Fassbender’s upcoming big screen adaptation of the console classic Assassin’s Creed has arrived and it looks busy, bloody and potentially brilliant.

Movies based on computer games are always a tricky proposition with the likes of Max Payne and Hitman – twice – showing how easy it is to make a pig’s ear of a film about a game with a plot that appears to lend itself so well to the big screen.

Assassin’s Creed is no different – the story of a death row inmate given a chance at redemption by going back in time to relive the memories of his ancestors and solve an ancient mystery in the present day comes straight out of Hollywood.

Set around the time of the Spanish Inquisition, the game involves lots of jumping around from building to building and plenty of bloodletting when the situation calls for it.

And the good news for those fans of the game eagerly anticipating this movie version is that it looks like it won’t disappoint in that respect.

With Fassbender taking on the titular role and ably supported Marion Cotillard we can already picture the lazy poster tagline reviews describing it as “The Matrix meets Gladiator” – though who wouldn’t want to see that movie?

Whatever your preference though, it certainly has a lot of swords in it and some quite ludicrous jumping from buildings.

However, with Fassbender involved, we would be lying if we said were not a little bit excited about it.

Fans will still have quite a wait on their hands for the film to be released though with Assassin’s Creed scheduled to hit cinemas on December 21. We can’t wait.
