Angela Eagle goes full Alan Partridge with Labour leadership bid

Smell my cheese, you mother!

Angela Eagle’s campaign to usurp Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the Labour Party has started badly with the Wallasey MP garnering negative comparisons with fictional television buffoon Alan Partridge.

Steve Coogan’s much-loved comic creation has been wheeled out at regular intervals throughout the last few months with everyone from Nigel Farage to Tony Blair earning comparisons with the BBC favourite.

But Eagle may be the best yet, after the launch of her campaign to replace Corbyn as leader of the opposition was noted for being distinctly Partridge in two very specific ways.

Firstly, there was the eerie way in which Angela’s rather naff looking launch poster bore a striking similarity to the logo for Knowing Me Knowing You.

But, worse still, was the cringey way in which Eagle reacted when she discovered her thunder had been stolen by Andrea Leadsom, following the latter’s decision to quit the Conservative Party leadership race.

It was eerily similar to the way Partridge once attempted to grab the people’s attention, but failed miserably, during an appearance at a country fayre.

Eagle’s decision to launch alongside a pink logo has not gone down too well with female voters either, with the much-delayed leadership coup that has engulfed Labour looking like falling at the first hurdle.

Years from now, Corbyn is going to end this story with the words “needless to say, I had the last laugh.”
