Newcastle United was one of the biggest casualties this season as the Geordies were relegated from the Premier League – even though Rafa Benitez did his best to save the ailing side.
The Geordies are preparing for life in the Championship and as usual for sides like Newcastle that usually means selling a couple of players to slash the wage bill but also as a result of players not wanting to step down a level.
The first person out the door is none other than Newcastle winger, Andros Townsend. The former Spurs midfielder joined Newcastle in the January transfer window with Steve McClaren attempting to firefight his way out of relegation and keep himself in a job, which of course didn’t happen.
Townsend, who is currently training with the England squad ahead of the European Championships, was pictured on his way to Lisbon this morning. Local media first reported it this morning that the transfer was imminent.

Townsend’s former Spurs team-mate, Sandro, is also on the verge of the move to Sporting Lisbon also according to The Sun.
You’ll always have Crystal Palace, Geordies!
