“Get away from them you bitch” Own Ripley’s Reeboks in time for Alien Day

Mark April 26 in your calendars – this is the day to celebrate all things Xenomorph.

Back To The Future has October 25, Star Wars has May 4, now an official Alien Day has been added to the calendar for April 26.

In what appears to be a highly tenuous link not at all designed as a money-spinner, the sci-fi franchise is using the planet from the first Alien, named LV–426, as the inspiration for the festivities. That’s the date of 4/26. See?

To mark the made-up occasion, 20th Century Fox and Reebok have teamed up for an exact replica of the high-top Stompers worn by Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley in Aliens.

Yes, this was the footwear Ripley was sporting when she yelled the iconic line “Get away from her, you bitch” before dispensing with the snarling Alien Queen.

Reebok, who made the sneakers specifically for James Cameron’s sci-fi sequel in 1986, will also put out a version of the mid-top trainers worn by Lance Henriksen’s android Bishop.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the shoes will be available from April 26 via Reebok.com and select Reebok stores. The high-tops were originally released on the back of Aliens’ initial cinema release, but only for a limited time.

Popularity among cosplayers, and the success of the Back To The Future self-lacing trainers has given movie-based footwear a second lease of life.

Alien Day on April 26th won’t just be all about buying new trainers and marathoning through five movies (let’s be honest, you won’t bother with the Alien vs Predator films) – there’ll also be a new Xenomorph story to track down.

Audio drama Alien: Out Of The Shadows will debut through Amazon’s Audible and feature the voice of Blade Runner’s Rutger Hauer.

The first two (and best) films in the series will also be making a return to cinemas for the day.

Other activities planned include online quizzes giving fans the chance to win prizes every 42.6 minutes on Twitter. So if you want a pair of those trainers for free, best point your browsers in the direction of Reebok’s Twitter feed.
